ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

RON is one of the complications seen after RT to the brain and orbit.Diagno-sis is made according to the patient's medical history and clinical findings and supported by MRG. Despite the application of anticoagulation, steroid and hyperbaric oxygen therapy no ple-asant outcomes are achieved. %85-90 of all RON patients are known to have a visual acuity at the level of 20/200 and %45 with no light perception.

Results:

The patient who had RT consisting of 35 sections with a total dose of 7000 cGy experienced a visual loss at his left eye followed by right eye. In his initial examination his visual acuity (VA) level was 0.1 for the right, light perception for the left eye. Fundus examinati-on showed right optic nerve normality and left optic nerve paleness. MRG showed swelling of optic discs as well as contrast enhancement supporting the diagnosis of RON. Pulse steroid treatment was applied, but VA stayed at the level of finger counting for both eyes and right optic nerve paleness was seen afterwards.

Materials-Methods:

The patient who was applied RT to cure NC had a visual loss and optic atrophy in the right followed by the left eye within two years. We made a diagnosis of RON with clinical findings also supported by MRG and FFA.

Purpose:

To report the results of clinical and imaging outcomes of a male patient at the age of 58 diagnosed with nasopharinx cancer (NC) and received radiation therapy (RT) who la-ter on developed radiation induced optic neuropathy (RON).
