ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to report serous macular detachment in two patients with cystoid macular edema (CME) associated with pars planitis. Two patients with CME associated with pars planitis underwent an ophthalmoscopic examination and fluorescein angiographic evaluation. They were also studied with optical coherence tomography (OCT). In both patients, OCT showed hyporeflective intraretinal cavities in the macula. The cystoid cavities expanded in a round or oval configuration, resulting in loss of the normal depression of the anterior retinal contour at the fovea. A central serous macular detachment composed of retinal elevation over a nonreflective cavity with no shadowing of the underlying tissues was seen in both patients. This case report shows the presence of serous macular detachment in patients with CME due to pars planitis. (TOD Journal 2010; 40: 184-6)
